Actress Blake Lively's actor father is expected to make a full recovery after losing control of his car and flipping the vehicle down an embankment on Monday.

Ernie Lively, 61, was taken to hospital and treated for back, arm and lung injuries - but he has been given the all clear by doctors.

The Gossip Girl star's mom Elaine tells Us Weekly magazine, "He's going to make a full recovery, thankfully. It was a horrific accident.

"He swerved to miss a car and his car tumbled down an embankment."

Lively, who dashed to the Los Angeles area hospital from New York after hearing of the accident, acted alongside her father in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies. He played her screen father in the films.

Initial reports suggested Lively had broken his back, but his wife insists, "It is far less serious than we thought... We are just happy he is going to be Okay."
